About Van Zant:

Van Zant was an American Southern rock–country duo made up of brothers Donnie Van Zant (best known as the lead singer of 38 Special) and Johnny Van Zant (lead vocalist of Lynyrd Skynyrd). Formed in the mid-2000s, the duo brought together their deep Southern rock roots and translated them into a modern country format.

Their music focused heavily on themes of family, patriotism, faith, loyalty, and small-town values, resonating strongly with fans of both classic Southern rock and traditional country. Albums such as Get Right with the Man (2005) and My Kind of Country (2007) produced notable songs including “Help Somebody,” “That Scares Me,” “There You Are,” and “The Hardest Thing.”

While their sound leaned more toward country radio than their earlier rock projects, the brothers’ unmistakable vocals and heritage gave the music an authentic Southern edge. Van Zant was never intended to replace their main bands but instead served as a side project that honored their shared musical legacy.

Though the duo eventually went inactive, Van Zant remains remembered as a meaningful collaboration between two iconic voices in Southern music, bridging generations of rock and country fans.
